So, yesterday we were outside talking to the neighbor when his dog found a bunny burrow/nest/whatev. The neighbor jumped on the dog pretty quickly, but the dog got ahold of one of the baby bunnies and sent the others scattering. I rounded them back up and got them back in the burrow, but the one the dog had wouldn’t stay in and was limping pretty heavily. We couldn’t just leave it outside in the grass because it wouldn’t survive outside its burrow so we brought it inside and tried to give it a home, hoping to nurse it back to health.
After putting it in little aquarium with some grass and leaves we looked online for advice. The overwhelming opinion was to put it back in its hole if it wasn’t terribly injured. So we got it back out, I felt its legs and watched it move a bit. By now it was doing much better so we decided to take it back outside and make sure it went down its burrow. It escaped a few times, but we were vigilant and eventually it stayed long enough for us to be reasonably sure it would stay for the night.
Anyhoo, I felt like blogging the story to share it with everyone. There are three things to be learned here:
- Watch what your dogs are doing at all times
- Leave bunnies in their holes unless the mother is gone for sure
- Baby bunnies are possibly the cutest thing evar
Behold!
