Last night I woke up to the most extreme storm I’ve ever been in. The wind was blowing the rain so hard I couldn’t see more than a few feet out the window, and it was making a kind of screaming noise. I got up and went to the window to see if it was the tornado sirens, which I don’t think it was, but it quickly got worse and worse. Lightning was crackling about every second and the power was going on and off (cool that we can keep power even during that…). By this time Jess was awake so we went downstairs into our under-the-stairs tornado place and left Al to die in his room. At the time I thought he would be ok, but then I realized his bed is by the windows. By this time, however, he had already emerged and gone into his bathroom, the next safest/safest place in the house. The insane wind continued for a few minutes, punctuated by green lightning (never seen that before), then died down and moved on. I checked my phone and we were on a tornado watch, so I’m just glad nothing actually came down and took us away.
The aftermath is pretty standard for spring. 4 of our fence panels blew down. Our trampoline hit the neighbors tree, which barely stopped it from pummeling their house. Shingles are EVERYWHERE. There is some sort of pink insulation roll in our backyard - I’ll have to deal with that later. Massive trees in the neighborhood have been destroyed.
Luckily none of the fenceposts I rebuilt went down. I’m interested to see if any of the new $5,000 fences people put up last year are having problems.
Well, more time and more money. I have to call the insurance guys out to see if my roof is ok, and I have to start rebuilding the fence again. We have officially passed the halfway mark - more than our original fence has come down than is still standing.
