On Blogging, Office Work, and Magic Fruit

So, I’ve been off the radar for a while, but I’m not sure why. I’m not doing much, so in theory I should have lots of time to rant and rave on here.

I’m still settling into living in a new city – the places, the people, etc. New roommates also require quite a bit of getting used to. Since I now live in the area, I’ve been conscripted into actually ‘coming in to the office’ each day. For some reason they want me to code there instead of at home. I think it is really so I can be in their office to help them all with random computer issues. I’m good with it though; I still get my commission AND they are paying me for my hours. :) It is also good for me to be there to make sure they don’t get any ideas about using other software and to get real feedback for each new feature.

On an entirely different note, we bought some magic fruit (ok, not the actual fruit, but close – http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/candy/ab3f/) and tried a bunch of food tonight. It was a smashing success! I was half expecting it to be a total letdown, but the effect is really quite incredible. The fruit (and pills) ‘mess up’ your taste buds so you can’t taste sour or bitter, making everything taste sweet. Lemons (tastes like lemonade), limes (very sugary lime-ade), oranges (sugah!), and grapefruit (heaven!) are particularly awesome, followed closely by dill pickles, gatorade, and tabasco (it still BURNS but its NOT spicy…). Guiness was drastically altered, and corona was kind of like a soda. It is WEIRD eating things you know are sour but have them be extremely sweet instead.

We are planning on throwing a little party with the actual fruits and a diversity of food followed by drinking games. There are also tentative plans to get a regular group going out to dinner once a week and popping these beforehand. Should be a blast.
