Another low 90s day that started out with a high 90s. I’m not sure why my typing speed DEGRADES over time – I guess it could be fatigue. Maybe I should spread the tests out more across the day. When I do that, however, I always forget to continue and then post about it.

Yesterday I took a single typing test and got a 96.27 but forgot to take any more. Today, I’ve been all over t board, resulting in a meager average of 87.67. Sigh. I need to be better about taking my tests! It seems that typing tests and no other typing decides my typing speed. When I don’t test, my scores go down, when I do, they go up.

As to be expected, my typing speed is down almost 10 points since I stopped sleeping regularly. The first of today’s tests was a surpisingly high 92, but they quickly dropped down to the low 80s. Most unexpectedly, my error rate wasn’t any higher than normal. I didn’t make more mistakes, I just couldn’t go as quickly.

I’ve been in Utah the last week with just my laptop, so I haven’t been doing any tests. I started out today with a 95, dropped to around 90, then finished with an 86. I’ve had an interesting day, and that might be the cause of the drop, but still I’m surprised to have such a drastic variance across relatively few hours. Overall, still disappointingly low.
On an interesting side note, a friend of mine has picked up colemak, the other keyboard layout I was interested in. I ended up choosing dvorak over colemak because dvorak is more accessible ( I can set 95% of computers to use it with a few clicks) and because I underestimated the impact of things like copy/paste and the quirky layout choices like h, l, and s.
He is a linux fiend, so I gave him a source version of WPMC, but we don’t have it working yet… Ideally we will have it up and running asap and he can blog his progress in colemak as well.
