WPMC is a multi-user typing program that stands for Words-Per-Minute Counter (not very clever, I know). WPMC tracks long term words per minute and typing accuracy data for any number of users, saves the data in an easy to use format, and displays the data visually to the user. It also uses a plugin system to generate fresh content, shipping with 10 different ways to get source text, from daily news feeds like Discovery.com and Space.com to ebooks like Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” or Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”. The plugin system makes it easy for users with a little bit of python knowledge to create and share their own sources of content as well.

WPMC was written as a tool to document my switch from the QWERTY keyboard layout to Dvorak. For more information on Dvorak and the switch go HERE and HERE.

I’m having a licensing dilemma lately about WPMC. Version 1.0 is freeware right now, so you can use it for free on any number of computers you want. However, you cannot modify, sell, or redistribute it in any way. I have great plans for version 2.0 - I’d like to commercialize it but I don’t want to charge for it. If you have input on how you would feel about ads being shown in the client, please share them. That seems like the ideal solution to me, but if it turns people off of the software or gets in the way, I definitely don’t want to take that route. Also, I’m going to need a small but dedicated group of testers for version 2.0. If you’re interested in lending your time, send me an email or leave a comment. I doubt there will be money in it, but I’ll put your name in the credits.

Finally, I encourage (beg) you to get your friends to use WPMC as well. The more users, the better the software will be (more feedback and it becomes a higher priority).
